Your prayer is anonymous
Draft for review. Effective date: [to be set on publication]. Operator: [business name and registered address to be confirmed].
One Prayer One Moment (“the app”, “we”) lets Christians pray the Our Father together at the same moment. We built it so that we can count how many people pray together without ever knowing who they are.
In short
- No account, no login, no name, email address or phone number.
- No precise location: you choose your country yourself; the app never uses GPS.
- No advertising, no analytics or tracking tools, no data sold, ever.
- Taking part uses an anonymous key that is different for every prayer moment, so your participation cannot be linked from one prayer to the next.
- Detailed participation records are deleted 7 days after each prayer; only totals remain.
What stays on your phone
Your country, prayer language, household size (how many people usually pray with you), reminder settings, an anonymous installation number, downloaded prayer audio, and a random secret kept in your phone’s secure storage. The secret is used only on your phone to create the anonymous per-prayer key described below.
Settings › Clear all data erases all of this from your phone, including the secret, and the app starts fresh.
What is sent when you take part in a prayer
| Step | What the app sends |
|---|---|
| Joining | Anonymous event key, your country, and how many people are praying with you (1–20). |
| Ready (in the Gathering Room, before the start) | The same anonymous event key, the prayer package version, your prayer language, and (so a last-minute join still counts) your country and household number again. |
| Completed | The anonymous event key, whether you prayed with audio or in silent mode, and the time your phone finished (used only as a consistency check). |
The anonymous event key is calculated on your phone from your device secret and the prayer’s id. It is different for every prayer, cannot be turned back into anything about you, and is never combined with an installation number or push token.
We store, per prayer: the anonymous key, country, household number, and the times of joining, being ready and completing. The prayer language is checked but not stored with your participation. These detailed records are deleted 7 days after the prayer ends (a prayer may exceptionally be held longer only to investigate a technical fault). Short-lived counters used during the live prayer expire automatically within 48 hours.
What we keep afterwards are totals: how many people pledged, were ready, started together and completed, worldwide and per country.
What is shown publicly
Only totals. Worldwide numbers are exact. A country with fewer than 10 people is shown as “<10”, and when needed a second country is also rounded, so that nobody can work out a small group by subtraction. No individual is ever listed.
Other data the app downloads
The app asks our server for the exact time (so everyone starts together), the list of prayer moments, and the prayer audio and text for your language. These requests contain no personal information.
Notifications
Today, prayer reminders (for example “The room is open”) are scheduled on your phone; nothing about them is sent to us.
We plan to add announcements of new prayer moments by push notification. When we do, and only if you allow notifications, your phone’s push token, its platform (Android or iOS), your country, prayer language and notification choice will be stored separately from prayer participation, with no shared identifier, and used only to send prayer announcements and reminders. Turning notifications off or clearing the app’s data stops this. This policy will be updated before that feature is switched on.
IP addresses and logs
Like every internet service, our network provider necessarily sees your device’s IP address to deliver each request. Our service does not store IP addresses, does not use them for rate limiting, and never links them to prayer participation. Our technical logs automatically remove keys, tokens, identifiers and IP addresses.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the app. They process data only on our behalf:
- Cloudflare: network, server code and storage of prayer audio.
- Supabase: the database holding anonymous participation records and totals.
- Upstash: short-lived live counters (expire within 48 hours).
- When push notifications are introduced: Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service to deliver them.
App stores (Google Play, Apple App Store) process downloads under their own privacy policies.
This website
1prayer.app sets no cookies, uses no analytics or trackers, and loads nothing from third parties (fonts are hosted here). It reads two public totals from our server: the next prayer moment and the number of people who have prayed together.
Children
The app collects no names or contact details from anyone, of any age. Families are welcome to pray together; a household is counted as a number only.
Your rights
Because we never know who you are, we cannot look up, show or link any record to you personally. You stay in control on your phone: Clear all data removes everything stored there, and uninstalling the app does the same. If you have a question or a request under data-protection law (for example South Africa’s POPIA or the EU GDPR), send us a message through the contact form.
Changes
If we change how the app handles data, we will update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
Contact
Contact form (your name, email and message are stored securely so we can reply, and are deleted when no longer needed).
